User Experience & Custom Website Design

Epogee redesigned 530+ pages to enhance navigation, unify branding, and maintain ADA compliance. A cohesive UI library, wireframes, and intuitive architecture ensured a streamlined, user-friendly experience.

Audit, Index & Organize

Epogee Design conducted a comprehensive audit of all 530+ web pages from United Way of Palm Beach County’s previous website. This process allowed our UX designers to identify opportunities for consolidation, reorganization, or removal, resulting in a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. By restructuring the website’s content, we improved clarity, relevance, and navigation, ensuring a seamless user journey.

Information Architecture

The previous website contained over 100 top-level pages, which created navigation challenges and negatively impacted domain authority. To enhance usability, our team developed a streamlined sitemap and optimized the website’s navigation structure. This UX design approach ensured that users could easily find critical information, improving engagement and accessibility.

Accounting for User Personas

Our web designers recognized the diverse audiences engaging with United Way of Palm Beach County and tailored the website’s user experience accordingly. The redesign considered individuals in need, corporate sponsors, volunteers, community members, and nonprofit partners, ensuring that each persona could quickly and efficiently access relevant content.

Digital Style Guide

Epogee Design designed and developed a comprehensive Digital Style Guide to establish modular components, common layouts, and standardized design elements. Aligned with United Way of Palm Beach County’s global brand standards, this resource integrated seamlessly into the organization’s evolving online presence. By leveraging a structured system of reusable elements, Epogee ensured a cohesive, visually engaging experience across all pages—one that could adapt easily to future growth and brand needs.

Wireframes

Building upon the newly structured sitemap, our developers identified essential post types, page templates, archives, and taxonomies that required unique layouts. We then created flexible, reusable components to accommodate a range of content needs. This user experience-driven approach enabled efficient custom layout development while maintaining consistency in UI design and functionality.

Website Design

Epogee Design created a modern, inviting, and accessible website for United Way of Palm Beach County. While preserving the organization’s established identity, our UX designers incorporated elements reflecting the distinct character of Palm Beach County. Additionally, we ensured that the website fully adhered to ADA accessibility standards, making it inclusive and user-friendly for all visitors.

Development & Architecture

Epogee leveraged cutting-edge WordPress development with custom front-end techniques and dynamic back-end rendering. Streamlined management, optimized images, and performance-first principles delivered a robust, future-ready platform.

Frontend Development

Epogee Design implemented the latest front-end development practices on United Way of Palm Beach County’s website to maximize scalability, speed, and adherence to industry best practices. Our WordPress developers utilized techniques such as CSS Variables, Clamp, LESS, Grid, Flexbox, CSS4 Pseudo-Selectors, minmax, and auto-flow to enhance responsiveness and maintain a smooth user experience across all devices. This approach not only improved performance but also ensured long-term maintainability and compatibility with evolving web standards.

Backend Development

To create a high-performance and flexible system, our developers built custom PHP rendering engines that powered dynamic components, templates, and custom page builders. These components featured sophisticated logic that dynamically adjusted styles based on overarching theme palettes, ensuring seamless integration with the website’s design. This development approach enhanced both functionality and user experience while preserving a cohesive visual identity throughout the site.

Streamlined Site Management

Outdated, off-the-shelf plugins from the previous website were completely replaced with a custom-built WordPress admin panel. This provided United Way of Palm Beach County’s content managers with a more intuitive and powerful backend interface, offering greater flexibility and control. The improved system streamlined content management workflows, making updates faster and more efficient. By ensuring that the backend was as seamless and user-friendly as the front end, the new website delivered a cohesive experience for both administrators and visitors.

Image Storage & CDN

To further boost performance, Epogee Design integrated Imgix as the website’s image processing and content delivery network (CDN). Our approach automatically offloaded images to Amazon S3, passed them through Imgix for real-time optimization, and generated responsive image source sets tailored to each user’s device and bandwidth. As a result, pages loaded faster, reducing bounce rates and positively affecting search engine rankings by aligning with Core Web Vitals metrics.

Core Project Features

Epogee introduced custom event builders, flexible donation forms, and consolidated e-commerce. Fine-tuned workflows, and refined campaign tools elevated user engagement, reporting efficiency, and financial oversight.

Event Management & Registration

Epogee Design developed a custom event builder to replace a cumbersome third-party events plugin that previously limited United Way of Palm Beach County’s ability to customize user experiences, generate detailed reports, and implement custom logic. This new tool empowered the organization to design and personalize event offerings, track essential metrics, and deploy advanced functionality with ease.

Donation Forms

To streamline the donation process, Epogee created a flexible donation form generator that accommodates pop-ups, sidebars, and embedded on-page forms—all with a clean, intuitive user interface optimized for any device. This solution enabled donors to make contributions directly on the United Way of Palm Beach County website, eliminating the need to navigate to external pages and significantly improving the overall user experience.

Custom Campaign Forms

Epogee also introduced a drag-and-drop campaign builder featuring robust conditional logic and variable pricing options. This intuitive system ensured consistent design, functionality, and usability on mobile devices. With this new tool, United Way of Palm Beach County was able to quickly develop engaging, customized campaigns tailored to different donor needs and preferences.

Consolidated E-Commerce

To centralize and simplify all payment transactions, Epogee unified event registration, donation forms, and custom campaign forms under a single payment gateway system. A consolidated reporting panel in WordPress provided quick insights into all payment activities, which could be seamlessly synced with the organization’s third-party CRM. This streamlined approach boosted efficiency, accuracy, and overall financial oversight.

Retain Domain Authority

Epogee carefully mapped every legacy URL from the old website to its corresponding destination on the new site. These mappings were compiled into a master list and imported into the new platform to prevent broken links (404s) and preserve search engine rankings. This meticulous process ensured a seamless transition for users and protected the website’s SEO value.

Seamless Website Launch

Finally, Epogee Design compiled and launched the new website on a robust WP Engine server. The domain was connected via a secure DNS management solution, and object- plus edge-caching were enabled to optimize performance. The team also submitted an updated sitemap to Google Search Console, accelerating the indexing of the refreshed architecture and enhancing overall visibility in search results.

With the new website launched, United Way of Palm Beach County can now more effectively promote its mission, engage volunteers and donors, and provide critical resources to those in need.

The redesigned platform offers a fresh, intuitive user experience—improving navigation, performance, and overall accessibility. This transformation is already helping the organization strengthen its community impact.
